Hey guys, I've just recently encountered a problem with my Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (the same problem is affecting After Effects as well actually) and I was hoping to find some answers here. I've been a long time reader, but decided to join up, and would just like to add in that I love the site and have been using the tutorials for a while now. Keep up the great work Andrew! Anyhow, here's the issue: I've been told countless times that I've been using Premiere Pro with the wrong file types. Designed to edit DV footage shot from cameras, Premiere Pro is said to not accept an XviD, DivX, or any type of compressed.avi file. However, most of the files I use to edit videos/am commissioned to edit with are of course compressed.avi files (lucky me LOL). When I first started using Premiere Pro, I would often get the error message 'Unsupported or Damaged file' whenever trying to import one of my XviD encoded.avi files.
Adobe premiere codecs download, ACE Mega CoDecS Pack 6.03, The Codecs 5.0, Avid Quicktime Codecs Light Edition 1.2.0. Android music software game. All about Audio and Video. Play on your standalone player with the DivX and XviD codecs. Download License:Freeware Downloads.
So I did some research and discovered that Premiere Pro is incapable of importing XviD or DivX compressed.avi files, however, I found a most helpful work around. By installing ffdshow, along with the whole K-Lite codec pack, I was able to import, fully edit and export these compressed files in Premiere Pro with no problem at all. According to what I read, ffdshow acted as an encoder, allowing the editing of these files. I installed ffdshow over a year ago, and things could not have been smoother. I was able to edit the video files I need with no fuss whatsoever, and have had no since problems with Premiere Pro and editing compressed files.until now. Just recently, I reformatted my computer as it was getting pretty bogged down with unnecessary files, fragmented drives, etc. I backed up all my files on an external hard drive, and then wiped clean my two internal drives.
Before, I was running Windows XP Pro SP2, and now I have both Vista Ultimate x64 and Windows XP Pro SP3 dual booting on my machine. I've been mostly using Vista x64, as the 64-bit operating system is apparently supposed to utilize the Adobe programs better than 32-bit operating system. So, I went on to reinstall some of my programs back onto the computer, including Premiere Pro CS3 as well as the K-Lite Codec pack.
I brought over a couple of.avi files from the external hard drive onto my internal hard drive in order to test out Premiere Pro and make sure everything worked okay. Premiere Pro gave me the same error I was getting over a year ago, which was BEFORE I had ffdshow and the K-Lite Codec pack installed. Now, even after I installed ffdshow (and the codec pack) I received the error yet again. I tried uninstalling the K-Lite Codec pack and reinstalling, as well as playing with the ffdshow configuration settings. Yet again, no dice. You guys are my only hope.
I've spent some time searching these forums to see if anyone else is having similar issues, and I have noticed that XviD/DivX has been causing problems, however, I have seen some posts indicating that the poster is able to import these types of files into Premiere Pro with no problem. I'm just trying to figure why it worked before so perfectly for me, and now (when I need it most, go figure) I'm experiencing issues. So, is this a Vista problem? Has anyone encountered this error before? Do any Premiere Pro users here share my frustration?
Any replies are appreciated. Thanks a million times in advance guys. batman11 Posts: 2 Joined: 01/1/2009, 1:51 pm. Jamesel - The question itself is rather small, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible, as I can't help but think I'm over looking one simple thing. Muckyman - Thanks a lot for the reply! Firstly, I already had upgraded to CS4 however, I had some compatibility issues with Premiere and a project that needed to be completed, so I did some research and found that both CS3 and CS4 could co-exist at the same time on the same computer. So that's why I've been using CS3.
Having said that, I just loaded up my CS4 and tried to import the file, and experienced the same error. However, like you said, I may need to install the XviD codec separately, which I will try.
If CS4 does in fact allow easy XviD imports like you said, and I was unable to do it, then it appears that this must be a codec problem. Thanks again for your help. RichardB - Thanks for your reply as well Richard! I was contemplating switching back over to my XP and installing Premiere on it because I really need to get this project done, however, I was hoping to find a quick Vista solution.

That said, if muckyman's suggestion fails, I will definitely give your suggestion a go and hope for the best. Anyways, thanks a lot for your replies and suggestions.
Hopefully I can get this solved. I'll report back here with my results. Thanks again, - batman11 Posts: 2 Joined: 01/1/2009, 1:51 pm.
